The Slypner Athletic Horseshoe was designed and developed in Denmark and introduced to the European market around 1984. The North American distributor purchased the company in late 1991 and relocated the entire manufacturing facility to Claremont, New Hampshire.

The company's name is taken from Norse Mythology. Slypner was a horse with 8 legs who could walk on water, in the air and over the ground. He was the greatest horse know to gods and men and Odin, the most powerful of the gods, choose him as his own.
